How to use the right keywords to increase your store traffic

June 30, 2021

Getting traffic to a website is the top of mind for any e-commerce business owner.

With all the millions of websites available in the vast world of the internet, it’s quite hard that someone could arrive at your e-commerce just for luck, right?

Well, here is where we enter the magnificent world of SEO, better known as Search Engine Optimization.

But, what is SEO?

SEO is a set of actions that improves the positioning of a website in the results list of Google, Bing, or other Internet search engines according to an algorithm. It basically ranks websites so that people can more easily find what they are looking for.

Yes, you can affect your website ranking by having a solid SEO strategy. How? Proving to search engines that your e-commerce is the most authentic, unique, and alluring site they can offer to the searchers.

There are many things you can do to make that possible like produce quality content and getting people to link you. However, we’ll focus on one of the most important: keywords.

About keyword research

A keyword is a word or phrase that is typed frequently in a search engine.

The main focus of keyword research is to apply opportunities and generate traffic on what your potential customers search online.

When you optimize your page and content with the right keywords, you can become relevant and achieve desired sell results.

Finding the right keywords indeed has an amount of depth. Yet, starting to apply it to your print-on-demand business is a simple process.

Here’s how to start:

Identify relevant topics for your business

First of all, you need to think about the POD products you sell. Brainstorm what kind of questions your customers might have and what kind of products they will buy.

What are they looking for? How do they search for it?

For example: If you are selling print-on-demand shirts for cat lovers, how will they search for them? “Cat shirts?” Or “shirts with cats”?

List all the similar ways your customers can use to look for your product and don’t limit yourself only with small words. You can also add keywords like the “best cat shirts” or “where to find cat shirts”.

Find related searches

As you create your keyword list, you can start looking for your words in engines to see how popular they are.

Write the word, for example, cat shirts, and take note of the words that appear on the finder, like cat shirts for women, cat shirts for men, cat shirts funny, among others.

You can also scroll down to the end of the page to see the related searches. Both of these will give you more ideas about popular keywords you can use on your e-commerce site.

Important: Remember to choose from your keyword ideas the ones that truly match your brand, your target audience, and your print-on-demand store.

Use keyword research tools

Many platforms can help you with your list of keywords. Some of the most popular ones are:
